I know, been awhile.
Things are now rolling here at DXARTS. I've recieved some nice e-mails from folks asking me how it is, if it's worth coming over to Seattle to, etc. While I do like it here so far, unfortunately, I cannot say for sure. It's incredibly brand new and things are very much in transition. No one's really initiated anything signifigant in the department so I can't speak of funding and support quite yet. But the faculty are a bunch of amazing folks.
I am co-TAing DXARTS 200, the gateway class for the undergrads who may want to be in the department. It's an amazing privilege to be in this position, to have a chance to shape some new faces in the digital art world from the bottom up. We're throwing them some really complex concepts and many of them are succeeding. I'm learing along with them, the history and theory behind, well, what I do.
I recently had an exhibition up in Vancouver, BC, as a part of the New Forms Festival. It was my piece, "Threads://Porn_Personals," a non interactive dynamic video piece that connects to the world wide web. There was some trouble up there with security in the gallery, but in an all it was a good experience and the people up there were incredibly dedicated and hard working and really believed in what they wanted to do. I will post more of my impressions of the festival (and pictures) in a little bit).
This quarter has been quiet academically, my only real class is a Computer Music class using SuperCollider and LISP, which has been interesting and fun so far, but mostly review. I am reading and writing and researching as usual. I am initiating some new projects with Dan Shiffman, integrating A-life behaviors to bring my experiments in online text, interactive video, and cultural thinking to the next "behavoral" level.
